Ancient Symbols: Red Dragon Original Art, 12 x 30 acrylic painting on canvas

Winter Roses #02 is an original painting on canvas. Created by glazing thin layers of acrylic paint and medium, then adding thicker layers of paint with brushes and palette knives and finished with a layer of oil pastel in greens, blues, reds and golds. Inspired by roses from fairytales and the drama and secret thrill of finding a bold, thriving symbol of life in the dead of winter.

Fantastical and inspiring, dragons can bring good luck, be deadly foes, stalwart companions – they represent so many things for me growing up. This dragon though was built on mistakes. Frustrated one day, I cut up a watercolor painting and began attaching it to a new canvas with acrylic medium. I added layers of paint and textures with different tools. What I needed now was luck. I needed my very own dragon. Swooping in with a measuring gaze, this dragon well tell you like it is. That won’t hurt so much though when you see it do cool aerial acrobatics. Ready to hang, this dragon is painted on all sides.
