It’s hard to believe I have three paintings in the Whimsy show at the Alpharetta Arts Center. The exhibit will be on display through September 23rd, with an opening reception on Saturday, August 11th, 5pm – 7pm.
Read More: Whimsy Juried Show August 9th – September 23rdI grew up admiring works by surrealists like Salvador Dali. My sketchbook is full of allegorical drawings and will ideas. I don’t often show them to the public. Visiting the Salvador Dali museum near St. Petersburg, Florida was a life changing experience for me. The breadth of his work is more than melting clocks. His later works are huge, floor to ceiling absurdist murals. While most of my work is more representational, I am influenced by his use of color and metaphor.

More about the show from Arts Alpharetta:
“Juneteenth, baby’s first tooth popping out, a 21st birthday, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a funeral, a graduation, a wedding…what do all of these events have in common? Throughout the history of our world, our country, and in each person’s life, there are significant moments. We mark these moments, these milestones, by celebrating. Artworks can be inspired by cultural/national roots, using colors, landmarks, and historical events as a starting point. Artists are invited to select a moment – either global or personal – to express celebration.”
